Apple board member Jerome York died today after reportedly suffering a brain aneurysm on Wednesday.
York, 71, has been on Apple’s Board of Directors since 1997. His former positions include chief financial officer at IBM and Chrysler, chief executive officer of Micro Warehouse and a vice chairman of Tracinda. At the time of his death he was the chairman, president and CEO of Harwinton Capital. York was a graduate of West Point, MIT and the University of Michigan; he started his career at Chrysler as an engineer and worked his way up to the executive suite.
We offer our condolences to Mr. York’s family and friends.

Tonight at GDC 2010, I went out and stopped by the Capcom Fight Club party here in San Francisco, and while there, Capcom projected the actual App Store interface for sending their Street Fighter IV app to the App Store on various screens around the room. We actually got to see them press the button on the release live and in person, and sure enough, the game is in the App Store right now for $9.99.
Before you go press buy, though, I’ll also tell you that I got a chance to play the game, and while it is about as faithful a Street Fighter IV game as you can get on the iPhone, playing a fighting game without actual buttons is not really an ideal experience. While I was able to pull off a Hadoken and almost all of the other old moves after a few tries, the highest levels of competition in a fighting game require precision and subtlety, and this control scheme has neither of those. If you just want to play Street Fighter on an iPhone, sure — be an early adopter, pick up the game, and enjoy a few rounds of Guile vs. Ryu. But if you’re looking for the kind of in-depth fighting experience that Street Fighter IV on consoles and in the arcades offered, you probably won’t find it here — the controls are a little too inconsistent to really dig into the deep counter and powerup systems on display.

Pada awal ngeblog, kebingungan yang saya alami adalah mengatur tampilan blog. Dibikin bagaimana ya supaya tampilannya agak bagus, setidaknya menurut saya. Maklum, saya masih menggunakan template standard. Kalau dibiarkan saja seperti aslinya, pasti akan mirip dengan blog-blog lain yang juga baru dibuat. Setidaknya, meskipun pakai template yang sama, tapi tampilannya harus beda. Ya sudah, pertama kali yang diutak-atik adalah bagian sidebar. Pilihan pertama tentunya pencantuman menu utama blog kita. Misalnya daftar tulisan terkahir yang sudah kita buat. Lalu apa lagi? Mungkin list komentar dari pengunjung. Padahal selama beberapa hari list komentar pengunjung ini masih terus kosong. Tapi tidak apa, siapa tahu ada yang mengomentari tulisan yang kita buat di blog kita. Ternyata memang ada. Tapi setelah sekian lama menunggu tapi belum ada juga yang meninggalkan komentar, ya kita komentarin sendiri aja. Hehehe….
Setelah semua pilihan menu utama sudah kita pasang pada sidebar, ternyata masih ada banyak tempat yang kosong. Sepertinya tempat itu harus diisi. Kelihatannya pasti kurang bagus kalau sidebarnya masih bolong-bolong. Banyak para blogger melirik pada layanan yang diberikan oleh pihak ketiga. Kebanyakan memilih yang gratisan. Ini pilihan yang tepat. Kebanyakan, yang namanya kegiatan blogging itu biasanya kegiatan sukarela alias kerja bakti. Alasannya ini sekedar hobby, sekedar menyalurkan bakat menulis. Halah… Tapi tidak sedikit juga yang menjadikan blogging sebagai cara untuk mendapatkan uang, bahkan ada yang sudah menjadikannya sebagai profesi.
Kembali ke topik pengisian menu pada sidebar. Sampai dimana tadi? Ya, sampai pada memilih layanan gratis dari pihak ketiga. Layanan seperti itu misalnya yang disediakan oleh MyBlogLog, shoutbox, c-box, feedjit, feed dari beberapa blog / situs lain, status ym, dan masih banyak lagi. Sebenarnya layanan seperti itu tidak hanya menyediakan yang versi gratisnya saja, yang berbayar juga ada koq. Tentunya dengan fasilitas yang lebih bagus lagi dibanding versi free-nya.
Ada beberapa keuntungan yang diperoleh penyedia layanan seperti itu. Harapan pertama tentunya dari pelanggan yang menggunakan layanan dengan versi berbayar. Tapi nyatanya banyak juga, atau mungkin lebih banyak, yang menggunakan versi gratisannya. Tidak jadi soal. Bayangkan kalau ribuan blog memasang widget dari layanan itu, ribuan link juga yang mereka dapatkan. Iya, kan.
Kemarin saya menemukan blog yang menyediakan widget bagus untuk ditempel pada sidebar. Namanya Kadung.Com. Mungkin yang dimaksud Kadung disini adalah sejenis belalang besar yang berwarna hijau itu. Habis, di header-nya ada gambar hewan itu sih. Nah…, blog ini menyediakan kamus online yang bisa kita pasang pada sidebar blog kita. Meskipun saya rasa banyak para blogger yang memiliki software translation di PC-nya, tapi memasang widget ini pada sidebar rasanya cukup bagus juga.
